TEEN CHALLENGE RHONDDA

Who are we?
For almost forty-five years Teen Challenge has been working internationally to bring hope to hurting, disadvantaged people; young and old alike. Teen Challenge began in 1958 by David Wilkerson responding to his belief that God had called him to help a gang of youths on trial for murder. He walked around Brooklyn, New York and found an appalling high rate of drug and alcohol abuse amongst the young people he met and decided he wanted to make a difference. His story is told in the book, ‘The Cross and the Switchblade.’ Now Teen Challenge is working in over 70 countries and is one of the world's largest drug and alcohol ministries.
There are over 5000 people in Teen Challenge programmes around the world today. It has combined Christian concern and social action in a very proactive way.
Teen Challenge Rhondda is a non-profit organization and a collaboration initiative that relies entirely on the generous donations, funding and volunteer efforts of both individuals and organizations throughout our communities in order to offer services at no cost to the individual. It is the belief of Teen Challenge that community involvement and support is an essential component of recovery and necessary in providing services that address the specific needs of the communities involved.
Teen Challenge Rhondda has been
running in the local community since 1996. Our aim is to help families and young
people of the Rhondda who are struggling with addictions to drugs or alcohol. We
work alongside Teen Challenge UK who have rehabilitation centre's in Gorslas -
Challenge House for the boys and Hope House for the girls. We believe that with
God's help and with prayer these addictions can be broken and families can be
set free from the pain and anguish that it brings for all who are involved.
We have a bus that goes into the community on a Friday night with a team of volunteers to help the youth of the Rhondda, to give them somewhere to go, somewhere safe, we give out free tea and coffee and also some very nice biscuits.
This outreach is there for the young people who believe that the answers lie at the bottom of the bottle and need somebody to talk to them or just for a place to go instead of hanging around the streets. our regular areas currently cover are Tonypandy town centre and Treorchy Co-op car park.
Come along and see for yourself!
